Holistic ProvisionWellbeing Dogs
The neuroscience of linking social and emotional needs with animals!
At Tuition Extra, we have a range of wellbeing dogs, big and small, avaiable for in office sessions and at our other sites, such as Graveney and our partners at Chalkhill Farm.
Animals are non-judgmental and calm the anxious brain. Hugging a dog, releases dopamine. This is a calming and neutralising stress chemical, called cortisol (fight, flight and freeze). Our children and young people can join us in this state. Working with animals releases serotonin (oxytocin), the feel-good chemicals, which make us calm and happy.
Simply being with animals, regulates and lowers our student’s heart rate and stress hormones. This improves social interaction, bonding, trust and attachment. Furthermore, decreasing aggression and increasing generosity – Oxytocin linked with animals makes us feel happy!
In the first four months on average student engagement improves from 11% to 95%
